A national submarine cable landing station connects Bangladesh to an international data center and provides international connectivity to several organizations (ISPs, government agencies, enterprises). The operator wants to deploy five critical services (DNS, Web, Database, Monitoring, and Network Management) on a single shared physical server.
The network administrator is considering two approaches:
- Approach A: Deploy each service in a separate Virtual Machine (5 VMs on a hypervisor).
- Approach B: Deploy each service in a separate Container (5 containers on a shared host OS).
(a) Compare the two approaches in terms of isolation and security, resource overhead, performance, startup time, and fault tolerance.
(b) Since the landing station is critical national infrastructure serving multiple organizations, which approach would you recommend, and why?
